Behind-the-Scenes Restaurant Social Media Ideas

Put the social back in restaurant social media.

Beyond your website, social media is the best place to share your restaurant’s story. You can share a peek at the day-in-the-life of your restaurant and develop a distinct personality. And the more personality you bring to your restaurant social media posts, the better. Authentic sharing builds trust with your guests and connects them to your restaurant.

Why share behind-the-scenes content?

There is a reason why chef and food shows are so popular. People want to be let behind the scenes on the creation and genius behind your food. They sit at the kitchen bar because they want to watch the magic unfold. Here are some restaurant social media post ideas to help you share better stories about your food and people.

Drop them into kitchen action

Think fire, sizzle, and steam—anything that’s hot and cooking should be captured and shared in both posts and reels. Are you using a special technique or an unexpected ingredient? Your audience will love a peek at any unique ideas you have cooking.

Turn up the volume

Do you have a kitchen playlist that’s on repeat? Share your Spotify or Apple music playlist. Or have one of your staff talk about their favorite music to cook to. Use a favorite song in one of your Instagram reels.

Share some history

If you are a new restaurant, bring your audience along for the journey of build-out, menu creation, etc. If you are more established, go back to the beginning and share the history, the story of how the restaurant came to be, and what the name means to you. Or just share the origin story of an individual recipe—did it come from a family member or was it influenced by somewhere you traveled?

Get personal

Food is about ultimately about human connection. Show yourself! People love to know about the owner, chef and staff behind a restaurant. Share your personal stories to help customers connect with you.

Go beyond just bios of your staff members and share their personality and what makes them special. They are who your customers want to hang out with.

Go deep on the recipes

Shoot a video of your team preparing your most popular dishes and edit them in a fun style to music. Create some at-home recipes that your guests can prepare themselves. Share cooking tips and tricks. Do you have a team member with a great on-camera personality? Build a series in the style of a cooking show around them.
